Hello We have installed and configured Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES4 and have also configured it as a DNS and DHCP server. Windows PCs on the same network do receive an IP address from the Linux box and can browse the internet. We can also ping the Linux server from the PC using the NetBIOS name of the server We feel this would indicated proper DHCP and DNS operation. The problem we find strange is that we can not ping the PC from the server using its NetBIOS name. We do not want to put the IP address of the pc in the zone file or put it in the /etc/host file since we are using DHCP and the IP address may change. Can anyone tell us how we can configure the DNS server so that the NetBIOS names of the PCs on the local network are updated in the DNS tables.
