RHEL3 & oprofile [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

I'm using oprofile on RHEL3 and seeing a problem.
In a 10s sample I typically see only about 100 samples
whereas I expect 10x100=1000. If I look in oprofiled.log
I see that about 90% of samples are ascribed to
"modules samples lost" and this accounts for the lost
samples. What's happening here ?

Cheers
