my / partition is a LVM..wht need to done..

To reach the grub menu, only the /boot partition is important (which should not be raid or LVM if possible).

then, your /boot/grub/grub.conf has to be configured for LVM (google grub).

I followed steps put by Stephane..still same problem exists..

what about bios and fdisk? Is your disk and your partitions detected?

Hello,

When you boot in restore mode, try a fdsik /dev/hda. If fdisk succeed in
accessing to the disk, then try a p to print partitions table.

q to quit fdisk,

mount the / on /mnt/sysimage, the the /boot on /mnt/sysimage/boot, etc.

Then, with a chroot /mnt/sysimage, you'll be in your file system.

If hda is not found by fdisk, verify the connections to power and
motherboard (unplug - plug again). And check in the bios if your disk is
detected. (you can do that 1st).

Then try to re-run grub-install in the chrooted environment.

grub-install command

Gurus,

I tired to install grub using grub-install command..

at my grub prompt..
grub-install /dev/hda1....where /dev/hda1 is for my /boot partition.

After then I rebooted my system...unable to boot...booting process stops
and a blank screen comes up with no error mesg flashing on screen.

Even if I go it rescue mode thru CD..firstly I unable to mount
/mnt/sysimage..It gives errror message that error occurred while
mounting it..and chroot /mnt/sysimage..nothing works...

I have some valuable data on it..Please suggest..

-Ramachandra.
