Hi Michael,
You can change in the program "System Settings -> Display" the monitor
to a default type, example :
- if it is a TFT/Flat Panel use the option : Generic Laptop Display ????
x ???? (=resolution corresponding)
You can do this also by hand in /etc/X11 to change options in the
config-file "xorg.conf" or "XF86Config".
For more information about the monitor you can check the logfiles
/var/log/messages, /var/log/xorg.log or use from the command-line at
runlevel 3
the command "startx".
This will give some output with interesting information.

Hello all,
I'm having a problem where my RHEL WS 4 does not recognize my display
monitor anymore.
I had to move my home linux machine from one room into the other and
rebooted without the monitor plugged in. That must have disabled the video
driver or something because after I plugged it in and rebooted, it still
would not recognize the monitor (in console mode or X).
I can ssh in to the machine (and even using X via X forwarding) but the
console s unusable.
What can I do?
Thanks,
Michael
