I would take a step back, and consider how SSH, Ping, and DNS are related.  Then work this problem like this:

1) Fix your name resolution... make sure that you can perform lookups by name, and reverse lookups by IP address.  Double check on both machines.

2) Check your IP addresses and netmasks, and get ping to work.  You should be able to ping both by name and IP address.  Make sure you can ping A->B and B->A

3) Now with working name resolutions, and working networking, try to tackle your SSH issues.
