Hi there,

rsync is a good and easy choice and I used it to transfer files
between my failover cluster. This help me to sync all files on a
timebased (cron) manner (symbolic linked files too).
For example

[mnky@fubar ~]# /usr/local/bin/rsync --verbose --stats --recursive
--delete --links /etc/xinetd.d vipin@mongoose:/home/vipin/wOrkOut

both fubar and mongoose are in trusted ssh connection for users mnky
and vipin so there is no probing for passwd.

Once this exected, I could get xinetd.d directory under /home/vipin/wOrkOut/

try man rsync.

Simple back-up utilities are tar, gzip, bzip2
dump – for multiple level of back-up for the entire file-system.
rsync – for transfer data between servers and keep in sync
amanda – for a client-server environment.

Good Luck !
