Yes, you've misunderstood. I still want the command to run. I just don't want to get the mail, reporting that it ran. I also have the script file in the cron.hourly folder. It's not actually in a crontab file.

With the lead of Gavin McDonald I went with adding /dev/null 2>&1 to the end of the script.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Why not check the corresponding line in the crontab file and # command it ?? or I misunderstand.

Yes that will keep cron from sending mail. But in general commands
run by cron should not produce any output to stdout or stderr unless there is a problem. So maybe the script needs to be changed so it does not produce any output unless there is an error. Then you will get mail and know you
need to check it.

add '1&2>/dev/null' to the end of the commandline of the cron job.

Subject: how to stop cron.hourly mailings

I have a script that runs hourly in my cron.hourly folder. I get a
message every hour showing it's output. How can I stop just this one
script from mailing me every hour? Is there a way I can just stop it
or could I also get it to just mail me once a day?

Thanks,
Romeo
