I've misexplained. I am able to SSH, what I don't know how to do is start
and stop my ppp0 connection from the shell. Only know how to do it from the
console desktop.

Use an SSH client, available at www.ssh.org or www.winsshd.com, or several

Subject: working from ssh
Have RH9 installed on the box being used as gateway for my lan. I'd like to
be able to access network device control from my workstation with an ssh
connection but don't know how.
Specifically would like to be able to disconnect/reconnect ppp0 from the
shell.
More generally would like to be able to do most everything from remote
shell.
