Have you been able to mount your file systems in rescue mode and poke
around?  If not, than you need to

Tried to reinstall grub with >grub-install /dev/hda but it doesn't seem
to
reinstall grub and upon reboot the system gets back to the grub> prompt.
Can
you please give more explanation on how to reinstall grub??
