Linux, IDE, and SCSI

For some reason, my computer will not boot Red Hat Linux 9 off an IDE hard disk. It boots just fine off a SCSI, and Windows boots off an IDE without a hitch. I ask because my last SCSI died last week, and I'm forced to boot from a CD that I made from a boot floppy. Since the SMP kernel won't fit on a floppy, I'm down to one processor...
Can anyone help me?

Thanks!
