That is not really true. I have SATA on my RHEL 3 computers and I'm using Nvidia based chipset. The install of RHEL 3 Update 5 64bit found the SATA disks without me specifing any drivers during the install. You probably have a motherboard chipset whith has "non-standard" SATA chipset. You will need to create floppy install driver to install it (assuming you find drivers on the shipset vendors site etc) Don't cry....
