X problems as root after su

Hello,

I use ssh from cygwin on my laptop to login to one of many ES3 boxes and sometimes use su - (maybe this is the big problem). When I try to use an application that uses X (is that the right phrase? I'm not so familiar with X), I get this error message: X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. Connection lost to X server `localhost:11.0'

Anyone have any ideas how I can evade this setting?

SOW
