Marco, The lsof /users2/.swap1.img command returns nothing, and the file /users2/.swap1.img command returns the following: Linux/i386 swap file (new style), but no timestamp. Look at the timestamps. Are the files growing? Did you try lsoft? AFAIK, an entry in fstab is so the swap file is reinstated after a reboot.
