4GB installed - RH reports 3.2?!?

Hi All,

Thanks to those of you who responded with answers to my query on the mouse
problem. I managed to get it sorted by going all the way through the first
boot process and it "miraculously" worked fine after booting. I have to say
though, using a GUI with no mouse isn't fun!!!

Anyway, now to my problem, we have a HP xw4300 with 4GB memory installed.
The system performs a memory check upon boot up (the first boot reported a
CMOS checksum error). It does a "click" on every 1MB of memory until it
passes 3.3GB, then the checks change to every 4MB, up until 4GB is reached
(well, 4096MB).

The BIOS reports 4096 (in 4 x 1GB sticks) when I check it.

Red Hat (Enterprise linux 3 Update 5 WS) reports only 3290744 installed
memory, both when I use top, free and even in the boot messages.

Does Red Hat not recognise the full 4GB memory?

We are using the 2.4.21-32EL kernel for x86-64 on a P4 650 (2Mb cache,
3.4GHz)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andy
