Have you tried to use the --aid option when trying to install the rpm. The --aid option will go out and automatically get all the dependencies you need. This is the way it works on RHEL4.

Subject: tix-8.1.4-92.sh4.rpm installation

Hello List,
I am having a tough time installing a software on my
RH9 machine. This software requires the installation
of tix-8.1.4-92.sh4 and when I try to install it I get
the following error:

 rpm -i tix-8.1.4-92.sh4.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        tk is needed by tix-8.1.4-92
        itcl is needed by tix-8.1.4-92
        libitcl3.2.so is needed by tix-8.1.4-92
        libitk3.2.so is needed by tix-8.1.4-92
        libtk8.3.so is needed by tix-8.1.4-92

I tried to install the dependencies, however, I get
the following error while installing:

 rpm -i tcl-8.3.2-1.i386.rpm
package tcl-8.3.5-88 (which is newer than
tcl-8.3.2-1) is already installed

...and it does not allow me to install the older
version. But the software I 'm trying to install needs
those lib files ...Help!!
Bosky
