Because RedHat has some proprietary packages in the OS (such as their trademarked graphics) you cannot download RHEL for free. If you need more than a 30 day demo copy, then I would suggest that you use CentOS, http://www.centos.org/ CentOS is a repackaging of the free parts of RHEL. It is mostly identical to RHEL and it should be OK to use for studying from what I have heard, although I have not used it myself.
