High values of softirq

Hi,

I have a server with RedHat ES 3.0, MySQL 3.28, where all clients connec to
via socket. When connections are established, the system becomes unstable
because of a high softirq value, according the TOP results. I have read some
articles on the net about this but I haven't found specific reasons why
theses values are presented. My server has 4 proc., and 512MB RAM, totally
upgraded via RHN.

Some idea about the reason of this?

Thanks a lot in advanced!!
YMJ.
