Quick opinion - you can run an unsupported kernel but you won't have Red
Hat support for any kernel-specific issues.  If it breaks, you get to
keep both pieces.

You need to be convinced that the patched stock kernel is somehow better
for your environment than a continually updated and patched Red Hat
kernel.  Remember that Red Hat has applied about 1.2 million lines of
changes and additions to the stock kernel.  Some of those could be
important to the stability and performances of your system.
