You may be interested in a bi-directional directory synchronizer.  Have
a look at Unison (http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/).  I've not
used it, but it's on my list of things to investigate.

Some google searching led me to these directory comparison tools:
http://xxdiff.sourceforge.net/
http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/

There are probably others, but these should get you started.
