How would you go about creating a .config file so that you can recompile an existing kernel with the settings that are already in place?
By simply copying the appropriate config found in /usr/src/linux-2.4/configs to /usr/src/linux-2.4/ and renaming it to .config. But this is explained in the redhat documentation for kernel rebuilding.
