The folder needs to be owned by the user that mysql runs as. In my
case, that user is the mysql user. The mysql.sock file is created by
the mysql process that does not run as root.

The /var/lib/mysql directory did not exist. Even after creating the

Any suggestions on what to do to make this work? I am at a loss.
