Try removing php from the system and re-adding it. Rpm seems to get
confused with certain packages during an upgrade. I had a similar
problem with openoffice, and the solution was removing the openoffice
packages and re-installing them.

Hi list,
I just upgraded my el3 to el4. Everything worked fine except for the
network configuration and dell openmanage - but my question is
regarding a strange error I get when I try to install php-mysql. It
says that php-pear and php-devel depend on the module "php" which "can
not be found". But it is there(the box is checked) and running
smoothly - does anybody know what to do?
Thanks a lot,
jan
