You might want to look at the configure script (more ./configure) because it might not be a 'gnu configure' script per say but merely in place for backwards compatability and hence ignoring the --prefix (as well as other) options. -brian Brian D. Usually there are also other path options in configure - such as --bindir, --sbindir, --sysconfdir, etc. You can try to set them to the paths you need. Sometimes it helps when --prefix does not work.
