Need help resurrecting an NTFS partition

Howdy!

I've got a friend with a USB drive that he says was formatted NTFS, using
it with WinXP. Unfortunately, he says that he hooked it up to a Mac, and
that it started doing something weird. He unhooked it, and now it won't
show up in Windows.

I tried hooking it up to my laptop while booting knoppix-std. I was able
to do an fdisk -l, which is showing the drive as Fat32. I tried running
testdisk, which shows two FAT32 partitions, but I don't see any data. I'm
figuring that the partition table was changed at the very least, and
possibly the file allocation table/master file table.

What I'm wondering is if somebody knows of a tool that I can try to use to
recover his files from the drive.

Thanks!

Ben
