Need help with laptop networking problem.

I posted this a second time with a little more information.

I just did a Fedora 2 install on a IBM 600 laptop with PCMICA card.  I set up
my static network paramters correctly but I can not get out or even ping
another box on my LAN.

[root@libros root]# ping XXX.XXX.XXX.102
connect: Network is unreachable

Here is the part of the boot log that I see on the network:

Oct  6 21:01:46 libros network: Setting network parameters:  succeeded
Oct  6 21:01:51 libros rpcidmapd: rpc.idmapd startup succeeded
Oct  6 21:01:52 libros pcmcia: Starting PCMCIA services:
Oct  6 21:01:52 libros pcmcia: cardmgr[1436]: no sockets found!
Oct  6 21:01:52 libros pcmcia: done.

The problem to me looks like a hardware issue. As the PCMICA card is not being
seen. I think ...

[root@libros root]# ifconfig eth0
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

I am pretty good with Linux tools and command line stuff and figuring things
out from man pages but in this case I have no clue where to start.  During
the install I did check off start network on boot.

Can anyone PLEASE help.
