from the broadcasted sendmail version. Apparently the broadcasted version
will still be 8.11.6, so they can still choose not to believe me. I am just
wondering if there's any way I can change that, just in case.
Please make sure you backup before editing any file, but you can easily change the version number of sendmail by doing the following:
In /etc/mail/sendmail.cf, just do a search for 'version' and you will find the version of sendmail:
# Configuration version number DZ8.12.11
Change it to what ever you want. You might have to recompile sendmail to have the changes made permenent.
If you want to completely hide the version sendmail sends out, do the following:
Change: SmtpGreetingMessage=$j Sendmail $v/$Z; $b
To:SmtpGreetingMessage=$j $bThis will only broadcast the hostname and time no more version info will be braodcast.Hope this helps!SW
