Does "getent shadow <username>" and "getent passwd <username>" give
you different information on the machines where the user can login
and the one where they cannot?

Yes, the machines can see each other & login prompts are appearing when
initiating a connection.  I should also mention that other NIS accounts
can login to both machines without any problems.  It's just this
specific account that is causing problems.
