Greetings: I'm running under Gnome. I started ppp with modprobe ppp_async, logged on to the Internet, then set up the consoles to tail -f, then tried loading Evoltion. It hung, so I left my desk for 15 minutes and came back and it was loaded. Here are the three logs requested. Am I correct in assuming that the "tainted" message that also appears in /var/log/messages has to do with the Agere winmodem driver which has proprietary code? Should I try KDE? I switched to it very briefly recently, got a message about not being able to configure my sound card, and went back to Gnome.
