You can change the run level in the inittab to single user mode and reboot the machine.
When it reboots, you will get directly to the shell prompt.


You can set Javapath in .bash_profile file in your home directory. Just append the directory path along with the bin subdirectory to PATH variable in the .bash_profile file.
After changing the file, either source it or relogin.
