Hi Ben! Did you try to put file on the server without login? Sorry I tried it gave me the following error: "An error occured copying a file to the FTP Server. Make sure you have permission to put files on the server. Detail: 200 Switching to Binary mode. 200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. 550 Permission denied." I'm getting the same error on my servers with vsftpd. Therefore your server denies anonymous access. You might do the following in vsftpd.conf Instead of comment #anonymous_enable=YES Uncomment and put NO anonymous_enable=NO anon_upload_enable=NO anon_mkdir_write_enable=NO After that, if you still have a problem I'll sent you all configuration files. My suggestion do not offer anyone to have ssh access to you server. To modify anything in /etc I will need root password this is dangerous. I do still have one problem that it didnt work for some reason. Would it be helpful if I posted that pectabyte's FTP site should only be ftp://pectabyte.dyndns.org while mine would be ftp://mosherben.dyndns.org? Right now if you try browsing though both FTP sites you have anonymous access which is very strange since I restarted my RH9 server to try have this fixed. I can create a SSH login(?) for you if you could access the machine since I do have SSH setup. Don't ask about what SSH is, I only know it allows a user to remotely access your files and I let a contact of a friend have a look after I tried your suggustion. :-/ Thanks, Ben >From: "Sergei Giritch" <sergei@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> >Reply-To: General Red Hat Linux discussion list <redhat-list@xxxxxxxxxx> >To: "'General Red Hat Linux discussion list'" <redhat-list@xxxxxxxxxx> >Subject: RE: FTP server >Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 12:29:45 -0700 > >Hi Ben! >In /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf specify >chroot_local_user=YES > >and comment >#anonymous_enable=YES > >Then to bind user to his home directory >In /etc/passwd > >mosherben:x:800:800::/var/www:/bin/bash >pectabyte:x:801:801::/var/www/pectaybte:/bin/bash > >Then in the bash execute >chmod 777 -R /var/www/pectaybte >chown pectabyte:pectabyte -R /var/www/pectaybte > >that's it >Best Regards, >Sergei Giritch >Web System Administrator >Fleetchek.com > > >-----Original Message----- >From: redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx >[mailto:redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx] >On Behalf Of Ben Sewell >Sent: Friday, June 18, 2004 3:52 AM >To: redhat-list@xxxxxxxxxx >Subject: FTP server > >Hi, >ok I installed the vsftpd which came with RH9.
