Seems the hard reboot corrupted a file... reinstalled using -U and all works fine ... in root. Cannot not get it to work in my home directory... load gtkam and when trying to "Add Camera" I am told "can not claim USB device" I would guess it is because I do not have permission from root to use the supporting programs (libgphoto2 and/or gphoto2). Cannot figure out how to find the appropriate programs to give myself (as home user) the permissions. At least I can go in as root, download the pictures and save to my own directories and work with them from there... but it means logging off and on...
