I lost my SMTP AUTH, help!

Oops, someone just pointed out to me that I wouldn't see LOGIN or 
PLAIN with my setup, unless it's an encrypted connection.  So know I 
have to go back and try to figure out why it's really failing, looks 
like it's not looking at the correct password database (NIS).
