not a bad idea but with the way i'm planning things* it would be much easier to be able to point mail or sendmail at a directory and say (figuratively speaking) "get to work" and have them start sending the messages.
With the little information you're providing, that makes no sense. You're attempting to reinvent the wheel- once you submit a mail to the local MTA (sendmail or otherwise), it gets spooled and delivered when the system can handle it (usually immediately). What makes you think that you'd be better served by inventing your own delivery/scheduling mechanism?
If you really think you're doing something off-the-wall here (it's possible), you should describe your problem, not your efforts to solve it. That way, the folks with relevant experience would be better able to evaluate your scenario and provide appropriate advice.
