Actually, Mandrake is more than just vaguely similar to RedHat, it still
holds basic RedHat components while adding new features. From Mandrakesoft;

Since the very first version of Mandrakelinux commercialized in February
1999, which was based on the Red Hat distribution of Linux together with the
KDE graphical user interface, Mandrakesoft has focused on developing an
original product built around many innovations. Nevertheless, Mandrakelinux
remains compatible with Red Hat. The following tools have been developed
through the combined efforts of the Mandrakesoft Research and Development
team and the international contributors to Mandrakelinux.

The undercarriage is still very RedHat (not to mention the obvious, that
were talking about GNU/Linux) . Keep in mind that as company for profit,
Mandrake will still make a marketing distinction between its products and
those offered by RedHat. Regardless, with the exception of certain GUI
features, both distros hold more in common than not.

Mandrake was based on Red Hat Linux about 5 years ago but they've been
fairly separate for a LONG time. That doesn't mean that they don't have
a lot of things in common, but they're quite dissimilar these days.
