The above looks to be a shell error, not a perl error. i.e. wrong interpreter. The attached script you reference creates the .cfg file(s) that would be used by both mrtg and mrtg_total.pl. Run this script first, then refernece the created .cfg file(s) as shown above for mrtg_total.pl.
