Setting up CRAM-MD5 requires setting up encrypted authentication mechanisms, which takes more work but is also fairly easy to do. Unfortunately, although several people have begun helping me to understand the process, I have not yet been able to integrate this next step into my HOWTO on Simpaticus.com.
