Installing Intel ProWireless NIC on RH 9??

I was curious if anyone had any recommendations on a HOWTO for getting an
Intel ProWireless NIC running on a stock RH 9. I have seen several sites on
the web that provide info on getting this up and running. A couple of them
talked about the need to upgrade my kernel to run the IPW2100 driver, this
one I found off of SourceForge and required a kernel upgrade to 2.4.23+. I
also found one site that discussed using the Spectrum24 driver, which
mentioned nothing about a kernel upgrade. Has anyone had any experience
with either of these? Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks,

DK

PS Im running a Compaq Presario X1000 laptop
