file permissions lost -- need help

Hello,

Lost the system drive and needed to install Linux on a new drive. After
remounting a RAID device, noticed we did not have permission to many files.
Root can't change them either. Keep getting errors such as:

ls -la |more
ls: 47731903: Permission denied
ls: 47731905: Permission denied

and;

chown 777 47731903
chown: failed to get attributes of `47731903': Permission denied

...etc....

I am at a total loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

James
