It is good to have a layered approach:

AV: ClamAv (free anti-virus) http://www.clamav.net
Procmail ClamAV wrapper: clamassassin http://drivel.com/clamassassin
E-mail Mime malware protection: 
http://www.impsec.org/email-tools/procmail-security.html



All free.... All excelent.
