I had the same problem. Apparently the machines came with BIOS revision A03. It sets the video ram to 1 MB. I had to downgrade them to A02. Once done, go into the BIOS and set the video memory from 1 MB to 8 MB. After that, I am able to get 1768x1024 (or something like that) with 24 bit color. The BIOS revision can be found on Dell's web site. Unfortunately, I don't have the URL handy. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll email you the program (Windows/DOS executable) Ryan -----Original Message----- From: redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of S Streif Sent: Saturday, March 20, 2004 4:38 AM To: General Red Hat Linux discussion list Subject: Re: X Server does not work on RedHat 9 with more than 256 colors for Intel 865 Quoting Bikram Assal <bikram.assal@xxxxxxx>: > I m running RedHat 9 on Dell GX270 with an inbuilt analog video card. > DELL 1800FP is the monitor with video card of type Intel 865. > > Video Card Type = Intel 865 > Memory = 32 MB > Driver = i810 > > I can only setup the resolution of 1024 X 768 with color depth of 256 > colors. > > If I try to use more than 256 colors, X server won't start. Hello Bikram, Check out this page: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11862 3&perpage=15&pagenumber=2 There seems to be a problem with the BIOS version. There also exists a patch to fix this problem (cf. http://www.chzsoft.com.ar/855patch.html ). Good luck, Stefan -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:redhat-list-request@xxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:redhat-list-request@xxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
