Also does incoming mail (from the Internet) go to mail.neidorff.com first?
It shouldn't, since (a) DNS resolves "neidorff.com" to his public IP address, (b) his machine responds to that name, and (c) his MX record points to "neidorff.com". Absolutely no need for a "mail.neidorff.com" anywhere.
