Install the tar.gz file from jakarta.apache.org. Works for me.
The tar.gz file as released by the ASF does not support RPM.
Only decompress and run.
...and then fiddle to get it to run as a non root user, then fiddle to get the startup scripts right, fiddle to get it upgraded, fiddle fiddle fiddle. In this case I cannot justify wasting the clients' money by installing something that is not easy to manage.
