SMTP over SSH via PHP

List and Linux Gurus,

I have a dilemma where Linux may come to the rescue as a deadline pushes us against the wall.

I have two production web servers on a DMZ that do not communicate to the outside world other than to serve HTTP requests. The servers are W2K :(, but are running Apache 2 :) I have cygwin SSH services running on the web servers.

I have a small staging server that is running Linux (RHL8) with a Sendmail. The configuration of the webservers is preventing me from communication to external SMTP services as well as communicating to SMTP services internally. Only SSH communication is allowed over the DMZ back to the internal network.

Can anyone provide a cookbook idea to create a socket/tunnel where by I can use SSH to talk to the SMTP server on the Linux staging box? The hiccup may be that I'm using the fairly famous Formmail.php script to send form data to a user.

Thoughts? Ideas? And many thanks in advance!

Tim
