If your installation is current - which is probably is given that you've
got recent CPUs - then check /etc/grub.conf.  Are you sure you're using
lilo and not grub?  You can verify your boot loader with something like
this (I'm booting from/dev/hda):
# dd bs=1k count=1 if=/dev/hda|strings |less
Look for the word GRUB.
