it depends on what remote desktop client you are using. I am using 'rdesktop' and you can specify command line arguments to get the screen res. I have a shortcut on my gnome destop that does the following command... rdesktop -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD -g1024x768 HOST-PC-IP this automatically connects with my username, password to the host and opens a 1024x768 desktop connection.
