Trying to get the RedHat OS to see the raid drive

I am trying to configure a raid 5 array on a Redhat 9.0 operating system. I am using an adaptec ata raid 2400A controller with 4 200GB drives. The controller driver has been installed, the BIOS can see the raid drive but the OS cannot detect it. I am
very new to linux and dont know what to do next.

I have a couple of questions I need to be answered.

1) Should I format the drive, partition, and then mount it?

2) I tried using fdisk and cfdisk to partiion it but the drive was not identified. What do I do?

The OS boots from a separate IDE drive which is working properly.
