perl_mod 5.8.0 to 5.8.1

I have gotten the src.rpm from Fedora and built new binaries for RH 9 for perl
5.8.1. They install without major problems (some man conflicts). However, my
existing perl_mod src.rpm will not rebuild with 5.8.1 installed.

How can I rebuild perl_mod under 5.8.1? I have tried cpan2rpm but must not be
giving it the correct syntax or it just won't work with it. I need libperl.so
recompiled so that apache will start. I tried the Fedora src.rpm, but it
requires too many dependencies to be resolved, including apache.

Surely there is a way to upgrade perl_mod to work with 5.8.1 without
completely rebuilding the system?

I have gone back to 5.8.0 while I search for a way to get it done.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
