	First of all, it's not something that gets switched at boot up,
it's something that
gets switched at login.   At login time you can click on the session
button and choose either
KDE or Gnome, OR at a prompt after you are logged in,  use "switchdesk".
This will give you
the option to switch between KDE, Gnome, etc...   Hope this helps

I have a 2 gig memory, 100gig drive Dell.
