I thoroughly agree, but AFTER reading guides, howtos, 
and your RH9 docs... (the sysadmin / customization guides)
install the bind-9 rpm
install the caching-nameserver rpm
edit  /etc/named.conf [carefully and after much reading]
service named start.
(and arguably chkconfig named on)
test your nameserver with 
the named-checkconf utility

alternatively (shameless plug coming) you could come on one of the redhat 
courses and we'll show you how to do it!
