You have to edit the twpol.txt file in /etc/tripwire.
Comment out everything that is listed in these lines

### Warning: File system error.
### Filename: /root/.gnome_private
### No such file or directory

So you would comment out
/root/.gnome_private
in the twpol.txt file.

Read /usr/share/doc/tripwire-2.3.1/quickstart.txt
Assuming you are using that version.  It should be there
someplace.  Or just do
locate quickstart.txt
and read that file.

It will tell you what to do.

Your best bet is to look at the Tripwire support resources [0] for an
answer
to your question.  

This is assuming that you want to configure Tripwire to not process
missing
files and not simply have cron/anacron not notify you of the job
results.
